We are very proud of the efforts of our elected officials and of the volunteers and contributors who helped them win election.

In 1998, Darlington County sent Jay Lucas to the SC General Assembly.  He was the first Republican representative since the Reconstruction legislature in the 1870s.

Senator Hugh Leatherman of Florence, represents Eastern Darlington County and is the Chairman of the Finance and Ethics committees.

In 2000, Nancy Lee of Darlington won her County Council race against long-time incumbent Democrat Jim Stone in District 1.

David Stanton of Hartsville won his County Council race against long-time incumbent Democrat Alex "Buz" Shaw in District 7.

Also in 1998, the people of District 8 elected Wesley Blackwell to County Council.

These fine people represent the change going on in Darlington County.  They are the first Republicans to hold office here since Reconstruction.

We thank them for running.
